Forest Department officials have detained three suspected members of a deer poaching gang from Choraputia area in Mongla upazila of Bagerhat district under Chandpai range of Sundarbans East Department.

The arrestees are — Syed Gazi, 55, MdFaruk Sheikh, 40, residents of Batiaghata upazila in Khulna, and Hazrat Ali Sheikh, 40, resident of Baniakhali village in Dacope upazila of Khulna district.

Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO), said that a patrol team arrested the three poachers from the area around 10:30pm on Sunday.

The team also seized a boat, traps used for catching deer, sharp weapons, and five drums.

The official also said that the poachers intruded on the Sundarbans illegally. A case was filed against them.

According to the sources of the department, around 250kg of venison were recovered, around 50 deer poachers were arrested and 25 deer were rescued from the Sundarbans during the last one year.
