Police have rescued a deer cub from locals, who caged the animal to sell it to the market in Waggachhara area of Kaptai upazila, Rangamati.

The deer cub came to the locality from the nearby forest with a flock of goats who went to graze at the area, sources say. Afterwards, some locals caged the cub to sell it at the local market.

When the video of the incident went viral on social media, Wasim Uddin, general secretary of Save the Nature of Bangladesh, informed the police about the malicious intent of the locals.

“As soon as we got the information, we went to the place and rescued the poor animal,” said Nasir Uddin, OC of Kaptai police station.

Later the deer cub was handed over to the Forest Department and they released the cub at the Kaptai National Park, confirmed ASP Junayet Kaosar, Kaptai circle.
