AZM Anas (45), the economic editor of the Financial Express (FE), was laid to eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard after Magrib prayers on Tuesday.
The permanent member of the National Press Club (NPC) breathed his last on Tuesday morning following a cardiac arrest at his Panthapath residence in the capital.
He left behind his wife, one son and one daughter as well as a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held on the premises of the NPC at 3:30 pm, where the FE journalists and officials along with the NPC members were present, among others.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers at Panthapath Jame Mosque.
In his 20-year-long career, AZM Anas had also worked for The Independent and The New Nation.
He wrote for a range of international publications and online portals, and bagged several national and international awards.
He received gold prize in the ‘Prince Albert II of Monaco and UNCA Awards for coverage of climate change’ in 2019, the first-ever Bangladeshi journalist to get such an honour.
Farida Yasmin, the NPC president, expressed shock and condolence over the death of AZM Anas.
She said Mr Anas was a veteran in the field of economic journalism.
Elias Khan, general secretary of the NPC, also expressed shock and condolence at the untimely demise of AZM Anas.
He said the death of Mr Anas caused a loss to the field of economic journalism.
S M Rashidul Islam, General Secretary of the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF), expressed shock at death of Mr Anas.
All of them conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family members, and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
AZM Anas was a permanent member of the NPC and the ERF.
Meanwhile, the Financial Express Journalists’ Union (FEJU) also expressed profound shock at the death of the FE economic editor.
His death was an irreparable loss to the newspaper industry and the journalist community was also grief-stricken following the demise of this talented newsman, mentioned a statement of the FEJU.
Members of the FE conveyed their profound sympathy to the bereaved family, and prayed for salvation of the departed soul.
