Two forest officials sustained serious injuries in an attack carried out by illegal occupants of forest land in Rangunia upazila of Chattogtam today.
They are Masum Kabir, range officer, and Ismail Hossen, forest guard of Rangunia range, our staff correspondent reports.
The two were attacked while returning after demolishing two houses illegally built along Sheikh Russel Aviary Park in the area, said Md Shafikul Islam, divisional forest officer (South) of Chattogram.
He said the homes were built occupying a part of Sheikh Russel Aviary Park, and so the forest officials launched an eviction drive.
“When they were coming back after the operation, the grabbers swooped on the forest team, leaving the two injured seriously,” he added.
Mahbub Milky, officer-in-charge of Rangunia Police Station, told The Daily Star that they arrested five people and a case has been filed in connection with the incident.
