A UPDF soldier on Sunday night shot and killed his 38 years old nephew after a heated quarrel.
The suspect now in police custody has been identified as Capt. Peter Mbweebwe who is attached to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and deployed in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Mbweebwe is said to have killed his nephew Winston Mugizi with whom they had been fighting over the latter’s cattle farm.
The incident took place light night in Bugongi Town Council in Sheema district
Scovia Birungi, the Sheema District Police Commander says the deceased had long accused Capt. Mbweebwe of failing to fence his farm which caused his cows to sneak out and destroy his crops.
She adds that Mugizi, out of anger, decided to go to Mbweebwe’s farm and get a heap of cow dung without permission, to use it as manure in his own plantation.
On the fateful night, at around 8pm, she says Mbweebe who was drunk, got to learn of this development and started quarrelling with his nephew over the alleged theft.
In the heat of the argument, the captain grabbed his AK47 and shot Mugizi in the chest, killing him instantly.
The Police mouthpiece says Mweebwe has since been arrested as investigations in the murder carry on.
